| Descriptors [ATSC Semantics] |
Descriptors are (generally) optional elements within MPEG-2 private tables that convey specific bits of information.
the list below is a comprehensive list of all ATSC-designated descriptors. Many descriptors used in digital broadcasting are defined in the MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 specifications. SCTE-complaint transport streams have their own subset of descriptors, and there are descriptors specific to DVB and ARIB transmissions as well. .
Descriptors are specified in several locations. The PSIP specficiation, A/65 describes descriptors in section 6.9.
Descriptors defined by ATSC are generally coordinated with SCTE, are compatible with ARIB descriptors, and may or may not have numeric conflicts with DVB-defined descriptors.
