Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE)
The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers is a non-profit organization of film and television engineers that develops and publishes a variety of standards and other technical recommendations that are widely used in the communications and electronics industries.
For example, SMPTE standard 12M specifies what is commonly called "SMPTE time code" and is the standard for specifying the time and date that a particular video frme (or accompanying audio track) was recorded.
